Vaccine packages and what they cost

Every package includes the doctor’s exam and a free one-month dose of heartworm preventative — which also treats intestinal parasites.

Dogs

First puppy visit — $79

Includes a free one-month dose of heartworm preventative

  • Doctor’s exam
  • Distemper and parvo
  • Deworming
  • Monthly heartworm preventative — free

The free monthly dose covers heartworm and treats intestinal parasites — roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms — and prevents flea populations developing.

Puppies and kittens are wormed at the visit. They commonly carry roundworms and hookworms from birth, and the monthly preventative starts from that visit rather than before it.

Vaccines and the wellness visit

Core vaccines are recommended for essentially every pet. Others depend on your pet’s lifestyle — a dog that boards or visits dog parks needs more protection than one that doesn’t.

A vaccine appointment is really a check-up with vaccines in it. The doctor examines your pet nose to tail, and that exam is where most problems get caught early — a heart murmur, a lump, dental disease, weight creeping up.

You come in with your pet. You’re in the room for the exam, you talk to the doctor face to face, and you ask the question you actually came to ask. Nothing about a vaccine visit happens in a parking lot.

Every vaccine appointment includes a free one-month dose of heartworm preventative — which also treats intestinal parasites. Dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

Dogs — based on lifestyle

These are not needed by every dog. Whether we recommend them depends on where your pet goes and what they are exposed to.

The doctor will tell you which of these your pet actually needs, and why.

The $29 covers the doctor’s exam at a wellness visit. Vaccines and any testing are priced separately, and we review the cost with you before anything happens.

Questions we get a lot

What is the puppy and kitten vaccination schedule?

Vaccinations usually start at about eight weeks old and repeat every three to four weeks until your pet is around sixteen weeks. Every one of those visits includes the exam, so while your puppy or kitten is being protected the doctor is also watching how they’re growing — teeth, heart, weight, anything worth catching while they are young. Book the first visit whenever you are ready and we’ll set out the rest of the series with you, so you know what is coming and when.

Do you need to see my pet, or can we just do the shots?

The doctor examines your pet first. Vaccines are given based on what’s appropriate for that animal on that day, and the exam is where things get caught early — which is most of the value of the visit.

My pet is overdue. Is that a problem?

No, and it’s common. Bring them in and the doctor will work out what’s needed. Nobody will make you feel bad about the gap.

Can I get records sent to a boarding facility or groomer?

Yes. Tell us where they need to go and we’ll send them.

How long does the visit take?

Usually under half an hour. Booking a time rather than walking in is the reliable way to keep it short.
