Same-day care during open hours

Sick pet? We hold same-day slots for urgent problems. Availability changes hour to hour, so call as early in the day as you can — 7:30am is when the phones open.

Bloat, foreign bodies, urinary obstructions, wounds, and most soft-tissue surgery are handled here — with in-house imaging and bloodwork, and a veterinary orthopedic surgeon for procedures that need one. We do not provide overnight care; if your pet needs it, we will refer you to a 24-hour facility.

The veterinarians across our two hospitals include two former owners of 24-hour primary care and emergency hospitals, and doctors with more than 25 years in practice ownership.

Not sure how urgent it is? Call us. Our team will tell you honestly whether to come here or go straight to an emergency hospital — including when the answer is the ER.

Paying for it

Many of our clients find that financing part or all of their pet’s care through Cherry works best for them.

According to Cherry, the application takes under 35 seconds from start to finish, and “Cherry performs a soft credit check which does not affect your credit score.”

We also accept CareCredit and Scratch Pay.

Questions we get a lot

Are you open on Saturdays and Sundays?

Saturday, yes — we’re open Monday through Saturday, 7:30am–6:30pm, at the same price as any weekday. We are closed Sunday, but our sister hospital in Dunedin is open seven days and can see your pet’s records — call (727) 738-2273.

Do you take walk-ins or same-day appointments?

We hold same-day slots for urgent problems during open hours, subject to availability. Call as early in the day as you can — 7:30am is when the phones open, and same-day slots fill through the morning.

Are you a 24/7 emergency hospital?

No. We provide urgent care during our open hours, 7:30am–6:30pm, six days a week. After we close, please contact a 24/7 emergency hospital.

Can I request an appointment after hours?

Yes. The request form is open 24/7. Requests that come in overnight are handled when we open at 7:30am, and someone will call you to confirm a time.

Is the $49 exam only for new clients?

No. It’s $49 for new and existing clients alike — the doctor’s exam fee for dogs and cats.

What does the $49 exam include?

A comprehensive veterinary medical exam performed by a licensed veterinarian. During the visit the doctor will:

  • Perform a nose-to-tail physical examination
  • Assess general health and body condition
  • Examine eyes, ears, skin and coat, heart, lungs, abdomen, and joints
  • Discuss any current concerns or symptoms you’ve noticed
  • Review medical history and preventive care needs
  • Answer your questions and recommend next steps

The $49 covers the exam itself. Anything further — vaccines, lab work, diagnostics, treatment — is discussed and priced with you first.

What should I bring to a first visit?

Any records from a previous veterinarian, a list of current medications and doses, and the food your pet eats. If your pet is having a specific problem, a short phone video of the behavior is often more useful than a description.
